Dr. Greg Gaines offers JUVÉDERM® injections at our Gainesville, FL, practice as a minimally invasive, non-surgical solution for facial wrinkles and folds. The popular dermal filler is made of hyaluronic acid, providing long-lasting relief for these common age-related concerns. A specially formulated JUVÉDERM® product can also help patients who wish to have their lips augmented. Treatment is simple and can be completed during one short appointment. In addition, the body naturally produces hyaluronic acid, so there is no risk of allergic reaction. Be sure to dial (352) 333-9600 today and schedule your JUVÉDERM® at our office! We look forward to answering your questions and helping you determine whether you are a candidate for the procedure.
What is JUVÉDERM®?
JUVÉDERM®, a relatively new dermal filler approved by the U.S. Food and Drug Administration (FDA), replaces the collagen found in some fillers with hyaluronic acid, a sugar-based compound naturally produced by the body. Hyaluronic acid helps maintain adequate levels of moisture and nutrients in skin cells, which creates smoothness and volume.
As you age, your body will lose its ability to naturally produce hyaluronic acid. JUVÉDERM® helps replenish hyaluronic acid, so your skin feels young and supple.
Benefits of JUVÉDERM®
The main benefit of JUVÉDERM® is its longevity. The effects of JUVÉDERM® remain visible longer than many other injectable fillers, lasting up to a year in some patients.
Who is a good candidate for JUVÉDERM®?
Generally, any healthy patient who is unhappy with the appearance of fine lines and wrinkles or the fullness of their lips will make an ideal candidate for JUVÉDERM® treatments. Since the body produces the active ingredients in the filler naturally, the patient will not need to undergo an allergy pre-test. JUVÉDERM® may not achieve optimal results for patients who lack sufficient skin elasticity, and Dr. Gaines may recommend a different treatment in this case.
The JUVÉDERM® Procedure
The JUVÉDERM® injection process has many similarities to other cosmetic injections. In preparation for the treatment, patients should refrain from taking ibuprofen and other anti-inflammatory medications for at least three days in advance of the procedure. Patients should not wear makeup to their appointment, although they can gently apply it after the treatment.
Dr. Gaines will begin by applying a topical anesthetic to numb the treatment area and ensure your comfort. Depending on the level of correction your skin requires, Dr. Gaines will inject the correct amount of JUVÉDERM® filler into the mid or deep dermis. Because JUVÉDERM® has a smoother consistency than other fillers, the needles on the syringes are thinner, allowing the doctor to use less pressure when performing the injection.
Typical treatments take about thirty minutes.
Recovery from JUVÉDERM® Injections
JUVÉDERM® requires no downtime, so you can return to work and other normal activities immediately after your appointment. Most patients experience minimal discomfort during and after the treatment, with some reporting only mild soreness or redness at the injection site.
What to expect after a JUVÉDERM® treatment?
After treatment, Dr. Gaines generally advises patients to avoid unnecessary touching of the injection site, although they may apply lotions and makeup as they normally do. Patients will need to use sunscreen regularly. The hyaluronic acid will absorb into the body over time, at a slower rate than other fillers, allowing patients to enjoy the effects of JUVÉDERM® for up to a year. The filler can be injected on its own, combined with treatments like fat grafting, or used to enhance the effects of a facelift.
How long does JUVÉDERM® last?
The effects of JUVÉDERM® remain visible longer than many other injectable fillers, lasting up to a year in some patients.
