Eliminate Your Double Chin Without Surgery
A double chin can make you look older or heavier than you feel, even if you maintain a healthy lifestyle. Unfortunately, excess fat beneath the chin is often influenced by genetics and may not respond to diet or exercise alone. Kybella® offers a nonsurgical solution to permanently reduce unwanted fat under the chin, helping create a more defined jawline and improved facial profile without surgery.
At Gainesville Plastic Surgery, board-certified plastic surgeon Dr. Greg Gaines provides personalized aesthetic treatments designed to help patients achieve natural-looking results. With more than 15 years of surgical experience and extensive knowledge of facial anatomy, Dr. Gaines carefully evaluates each patient’s concerns to determine whether Kybella or another treatment is the best option for achieving their goals.
What Is Kybella?
Kybella is the first FDA-approved injectable treatment specifically designed to reduce submental fullness, commonly known as a double chin.
The active ingredient in Kybella is deoxycholic acid, a molecule that naturally occurs in the body and helps break down dietary fat. When injected beneath the chin, Kybella destroys targeted fat cells. Once these cells are eliminated, your body naturally processes and removes them over time, leaving behind a slimmer, more sculpted neck contour.
Because the treated fat cells are permanently destroyed, they cannot store or accumulate fat again.
Who Is a Good Candidate for Kybella?
Kybella may be an excellent option if you:
- Are bothered by fullness beneath your chin.
- Have mild to moderate submental fat.
- Prefer a nonsurgical treatment.
- Want to avoid the downtime associated with liposuction.
- Are at or near a stable, healthy weight.
- Have good skin elasticity.
Patients with significant skin laxity may benefit more from a surgical neck contouring procedure. During your consultation, Dr. Gaines will recommend the treatment that best fits your anatomy and desired outcome.
What Happens During Treatment?
Kybella treatments are performed in the office and typically take less than 30 minutes.
After marking the treatment area, Dr. Gaines carefully administers a series of small injections beneath the chin. Most patients describe the injections as brief and well tolerated.
The number of treatment sessions varies depending on the amount of submental fat and your cosmetic goals. Many patients achieve excellent improvement after two to four sessions, while others may benefit from additional treatments.
What Is Recovery Like?
One of the biggest advantages of Kybella is that there is little interruption to your normal routine.
It is common to experience:
- Swelling beneath the chin.
- Mild tenderness or soreness.
- Bruising.
- Temporary numbness.
- Firmness in the treated area.
Swelling is actually an expected part of the fat-removal process and generally improves over the following days and weeks. Most patients return to work and other normal activities shortly after treatment.
Results develop gradually as your body eliminates the destroyed fat cells, with continued improvement after each treatment session.
Why Choose Gainesville Plastic Surgery for Kybella?
Although Kybella is nonsurgical, successful treatment still depends on proper patient selection, injection technique, and a thorough understanding of facial anatomy.
Dr. Greg Gaines develops individualized treatment plans rather than taking a one-size-fits-all approach. If Kybella is not the most effective solution for your concerns, he may recommend another facial rejuvenation or contouring procedure to help you achieve the best possible result.
Our goal is always to enhance your natural appearance while maintaining facial balance and harmony.
