At Gaines Plastic Surgery we perform a variety of facelift procedures. A typical facelift or what we would call a full facelift is performed on maybe a little older demographic. That’s our patients between 55 and 65 typically, although I’ve done facelifts of this type on patients as old as 80 years old. Our full facelift procedure involves a two-layer approach wherein I’ll tighten the muscles of the face underneath. And then afterwards the skin is re-draped, and typically that will be drawn back and tightened up a bit, too. This practice we tend towards a more conservative approach, and really don’t like to send patients out with what people might call a windswept look or a look where the skin looks a little too pulled back or operated on. We go for a much more natural appearance here, and what we’re shooting for most times is a patient who looks refreshed, or maybe like they’ve gotten some rest, but not something that changes their appearance altogether. During the consultation process, we’ll typically speak with the patient in between ascertaining from the patient what it is that they’re interested in accomplishing, and sometimes with input from me as well. Maybe the patients don’t know exactly what it is that’s troubling them, but they know there’s something about their face that’s changed. For our younger demographic, these are typically women who are as young as early 40s and as old as early 50s, that may begin to notice some early relaxation of the facial skin and what we call jowling. You only live once, and being able to help someone with their appearance is very satisfying for me as a plastic surgeon.
