Eyelid surgery, also referred to as blepharoplasty, is performed to treat sagging or droopy eyelids that can cause a person to look fatigued or older than he or she really is. Blepharoplasty can be performed on either the upper or lower eyelids and can be performed in combination with another procedure to ensure a comprehensive facial rejuvenation. We can determine if you are a good candidate for blepharoplasty / eyelid surgery at our Gainesville, Florida practice or if an alternative procedure such as Collagen or BOTOX® injections can be used instead.
During the blepharoplasty procedure, discreet incisions will be made around the eyes that are hidden in the natural folds and contours of the eyelids. In some cases, the incisions may extend to the corners of a patient’s eyes in order to treat laugh lines or crow’s feet. Working through these incisions, the cosmetic surgeon extracts excess fat, removes extraneous tissues, and adjusts the underlying facial muscles around the eyes.
We will be able to provide patients with in-depth post-surgical instructions for eyelid surgery / blepharoplasty at our Gainesville, Florida practice. In general, it is recommended that patients refrain from wearing contact lenses, limit time in front of a television or computer monitor and keep physical activity to a minimum for at least three to five days after eyelid surgery. As patients may find that their eyes are sensitive following blepharoplasty, we also recommend they wear sunglasses and special sun block when they go out.
Dr. Gaines performs brow lift and eyelid lift surgeries. A brow lift is also called a forehead lift, and can reduce the appearance of deep lines. This procedure is often performed in conjunction with eyelid surgery to achieve a comprehensive, natural-looking result.
