Everything sags as we age. It’s one of the more annoying facets about aging. One area that can be particularly depressing is when it happens to our backsides. Yes, the buttocks are naturally prone to sagging, both from the natural slackening of our tissues and from our sedentary lifestyles. What once was a high, round bottom is now flatter and lower. Ugh.
A Brazilian butt lift with Dr. Gaines can change that. These surgeries return the buttocks to a higher position, add volume, and enhance the overall shape. In other words, they create a butt you may have once had, or even fuller, rounder one!
Is a Brazilian butt lift an augmentation?
The Brazilian butt lift is not an augmentation in the true sense, where an implant provides the increased volume. Instead a Brazilian butt lift is a fat transfer. In a butt lift, a patient’s own fat is used for the transfer.
In a butt augmentation, silicone implants are surgically placed. The problem with this is that the recovery is very difficult, as you’re really not supposed to sit down for a rather lengthy period of time. Also, implants can shift and move, especially if you don’t allow enough recovery time. Dr. Gaines doesn’t perform butt implant procedures because of these possible complications.
The Brazilian butt lift is a superior procedure anyway; the consensus is that this fat transfer provides a more natural-looking result.
How is a Brazilian butt lift done?
Obviously, a secondary benefit of this procedure is that you have liposuction to remove unwanted fat from an area such as your abdomen or thighs. We then use this fat for your fat transfer. For the liposuction, a mix of epinephrine and lidocaine is injected into the target area. Tiny incisions are made, and Dr. Gaines inserts a thin cannula to loosen and suction out the fat in the area. Up to three times the amount of fat that will be re-injected may be harvested.
The fat, tissue, liquid, and blood that were removed are run through a centrifuge to separate and purify the fat. Dr. Gaines then re-injects the fat back into the buttocks through dozens of small injections all over your buttocks. Special attention is paid to the upper area to make it rounder.
Are my results immediate?
You will need a little patience for recovery and to see your results after these procedures. Results from a Brazilian butt lift are immediately visible, but there will be some time required for swelling and bruising to go away. This subsides in a few days. After that your results keep improving because it takes some time for the fat to “take.” It can take a full year before a patient’s full results are visible. Over time, some of the initial volume from your fat grafting procedure will diminish. On average, patients retain 60 to 80% of the transferred fat, with the body absorbing the rest.
