What is a Labiaplasty?
A labiaplasty is a surgical procedure done under twilight sedation that addresses redundant labia minora. Labiaplasty reduces the labia in size and shapes them to create a more aesthetic appearance of the vulva. Labiaplasty may be a solution for patients who are unhappy with the appearance of their external genitalia, or patients who experience discomfort as a result of redundant labia tissue.
Who is a good candidate for Labiaplasty?
Any cosmetic surgery candidate should be in good health, non-smoking, and have a clear idea of how they would like to improve their appearance with surgery. A labiaplasty candidate ideally would have a good idea of what she would like to address regarding changing the appearance of her labia.
What are the benefits of a Labiaplasty?
Labiaplasty may address excess labia minora tissue, a “deflated” appearance to the labia minora and labia majora following weight loss, discomfort to the patient caused by redundant labia tissue, and discoloration at the edges of the labia. How is the Labiaplasty performed?
Labiaplasty surgery is performed under IV sedation in our state-of-the-art AAAASF certified operating rooms. Dr. Gaines utilizes the wedge and trim methods of labiaplasty to reduce the labia minora to a more aesthetically pleasing size. If the labia majora have taken on a “deflated” appearance post-weight loss, they may be fat grafted to restore a youthful, full contour. Dr. Gaines may combine multiple techniques to help achieve a beautiful, natural-looking result.
During the wedge technique, Dr. Gaines carefully removes a V-shaped “wedge” from the labia minora and sews the remaining edges together to reduce the size as well as create a smooth edge. The trim technique involves creating an incision along the edge of the labia minora that removes the outer edge. Depending on the patient, redundant skin around the glans clitoris may be addressed at the time of the labiaplasty to create a cohesive look.
